Tourism

Tourism is a significant revenue source for many emerging economies. According to the Brookings Institution, tourism in Africa contributes 5% of the continent’s GDP, 30% of service export, and 235 million jobs. Consumer expenditure on tourism in Africa has been on the rise and is projected to reach $260 billion by 2030. The sector however faces several barriers that threaten its growth and sustainability. Strategic Aviation Services (SAS) focuses on poor transport connectivity as a key constraint to Africa’s tourism industry’s growth.

Foreign travel to the continent is easy by air. As well, data indicate a steady growth in Africa’s air transportation sector. Internally, however, difficulties with transport connectivity to tourist sites undercut the sustainable economic goals. Transport connectivity problems are not limited to poor road conditions. In areas where roads are good, long travels or constant heavy traffic can be a deterrent to tourists. Besides, scenic spots lack aerial services, which can provide unique and thrilling perspectives for sightseers.

SAS understands how General Aviation can make a difference, not only in boosting, but sustaining tourism in Africa. Beyond air transportation, our pilots and trained crew can provide aerial services, including paragliding, hot air balloon rides, helicopter tours and skydiving. We are committed to working with industry experts and other stakeholders to put systems in place to make tourism sites more accessible and inviting to visitors.
