Tourism

Tourism is a significant revenue source for many emerging economies, and Africa in particular. According to the Brookings Institution, tourism in Africa contributes 5% of the continent’s GDP, 30% of service export, and 235 million jobs. Consumer expenditure on tourism in Africa has been on the rise and is projected to reach $260 billion by 2030. The sector, however, faces several barriers, which threaten its growth and sustainability. Strategic Aviation Services has identified poor transport connectivity as a key constraint to tourism in West Africa. We are focused on providing expert services to ensure the industry’s consistent growth in that part of the continent.

Foreign travel to Africa is easy by air. Also, data indicate a steady growth in the continent’s air transportation sector. Locally, however, transport connectivity problems to tourist sites undercut the sustainable economic goals. These problems are not limited to poor road conditions. In areas where roads are good, long travels or constant heavy traffic can be a deterrent to tourists. Besides, scenic spots lack aerial services which can provide unique and thrilling perspectives for sightseers.

SAS has expert insight on General Aviation’s role in sustaining Africa’s tourism industry. Our goal is to make a major difference in the sector by contributing targeted services to boost tourism across West Africa. Beyond air transportation, our pilots and trained crew can provide aerial services. These include paragliding, hot air balloon rides, helicopter tours and skydiving. We are committed to working with industry experts and other stakeholders to put systems in place to make tourism sites more accessible and inviting to visitors.
