Rural medical air transportation is a critical need globally. The disparity in access, however, is staggering. In Africa, the lack of medical airlifts results in many preventable deaths. Severely sick and injured people are often left without critical medical attention. It is not uncommon for pregnant women in rural areas to walk miles, in dangerous conditions, to access healthcare. Roads are mostly poor or virtually nonexistent in remote areas. Even in places where they exist, the absence of major medical facilities necessitates aviation-based transportation. In big cities and towns, perpetual road traffic can turn a 20-minute drive into a two-hour-long journey. Many who die from accidents die because of delays associated with land rescue. Air ambulance can make a crucial difference during medical emergencies. SAS seeks partnerships to put structures and equipment in place to enhance transport connectivity where critically needed. Aviation is a viable mode of transportation, where road conditions are poor.
